Ryanair to Cut Brussels Capacity by 22% in Protest Over Taxes

Ryanair will reduce passenger capacity by 22% at Brussels and Charleroi airports next winter in protest over the Belgian government’s decision to raise aviation taxes, according to a statement.

  • To remove five aircraft based at Charleroi airport, which Ryanair says represents investment loss of $500 million
    • To scrap 20 routes from winter 2026/27 schedule, including 13 from Charleroi and seven from Brussels Airport
  • Ryanair says move is response to government doubling taxes to €10/passenger from 2027, as well as Charleroi municipal council proposing to introduce €3 tax per departing passenger starting next year
