Breast pumps and related supplies would be exempt from California sales tax under a bill lawmakers approved Tuesday.
The bill (A.B. 1203) by Assemblymember Jasmeet Bains (D) would add to recently enacted exemptions for diapers and menstrual products intended to make the state’s tax system more equitable. Bains said it also creates tax parity between breast feeding and formula feeding for infants. It won a final vote of 53-0 from the Assembly to accept amendments made while the bill was in the Senate.
