Second Partisan Tax Bill Faces Skepticism From Key Lawmakers

Leftover tax items on Republicans’ to-do lists before the midterms are running into challenging fiscal and political realities.

The Republican Study Committee and the House Budget Committee rolled out a proposal for another partisan tax-and-spending cuts package in recent days. But chief tax writers remain skeptical about taking up more party-line fiscal legislation and have prioritized bipartisan legislation for the rest of the Congress.

“I prefer that we not got through reconciliation unless we have to,” said Senate Finance Committee Chair Mike Crapo (R-Idaho).
