Senate GOP Pitches IRS Funding Cut
Senate GOP appropriators Monday issued their proposal to fund federal agencies including the IRS, pitching roughly $11.8 billion for the tax agency, a cut of about $481 million from current funding.
The agency is now funded through Jan. 30 after the Senate ended a six-week government shutdown earlier this month.
Republicans have sought to chisel down funding for the agency, a frequent target of GOP ire. Senate appropriators have previously tempered more drastic cuts from the White House and the House.
The current Senate proposal sidesteps Democrats, which Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) lamented.
