Senate GOP Seeks Tweaks After Tax Bill Sails Through House Panel

Senate Republicans’ gripes with the $78 billion bipartisan tax package bubbled over Tuesday, with the lawmakers debating ways to change bill.

The House Ways and Means Committee advanced the legislation that pairs business tax breaks with an expansion of the child tax credit in an overwhelming bipartisan 40-3 vote on Friday. While senators said Tuesday that the results of a House floor vote will impact how the Senate handles the legislation, Republicans are pushing for tweaks to the child tax credit as well as to the employee retention tax credit changes designed to offset the bill’s costs.
