Senator Urges IRS to Devote New Funds to Service, Evasion Probes

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden told the Treasury Department that the Internal Revenue Service should use its newly authorized $80 billion to improve customer service for taxpayers, audit the wealthy and stamp out offshore tax evasion.

Wyden, in a letter obtained by Bloomberg, asked Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig to set six priorities when allocating the new IRS funding included in President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.
