Senegal’s Sonko Names Ex-Tax Collector to Key Cabinet Post (1)

Senegal Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko named Cheikh Diba as finance minister in his first cabinet after being appointed to the post by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

  • Diba is joined by Abdourahamane Sarr, a former IMF staffer, as economy minister, said Oumar Samba Ba, secretary general at the presidency in a televised statement on Friday
  • Birame Souleye Diop, a former tax collector and vice president of Sonko’s dissolved Pastef party, was appointed minister of oil, energy and mining
