Singapore Plans Law to Punish Landlords Who Keep Virus Rebates

April 2, 2020, 5:59 AM UTC

Govt will introduce new legislation next week to ensure commercial property owners pass tax rebates -- intended to help local businesses deal with the coronavirus impact -- onto their tenants, the Ministry of Finance says in a statement Thursday.

  • Govt received feedback that some property owners have not yet passed on the rebate to tenants; proposed provisions ensure this will be done in full, statement says.
  • NOTE: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat last month announced a property tax rebate of up to 100% for non-residential properties, for tax payable in 2020
