Sri Lanka Tax Agency Announces Electronic Filing Deadline for November 2025 VAT Returns

The Sri Lankan Inland Revenue Dec. 17 announced the Dec. 31 deadline to electronically file November 2025 VAT returns. The announcement also includes that: 1) penalties apply for failing to submit a return or submitting an incorrect return; 2) input VAT credits for local purchases or imports will be denied if claimed on returns filed more than 12 or 24 months after the deadline, respectively; and 3) VAT returns for any taxable period ending within 24 months from the customs declaration date can be used to claim VAT paid on imports against output tax for the same period.
