The US Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear a case from a whistleblower over whether his award for submitting information that helped the IRS collect $6.9 million in taxes should be trimmed by federal sequestration legislation that capped the agency’s budget.
James Tindall was offered $651,000 for the information: a 10% share of the collection, reduced by 6.2% because of budgetary sequestration the IRS said was required under the Budget Control Act of 2011.He didn’t accept the award, arguing instead that he was owed the full 10%, or $694,000.
