Supreme Court Path Set for Potential First Black Female Nominee

Ketanji Brown Jackson was on the shortlist for a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court even before President Joe Biden selected her on Tuesday to be a federal appellate judge -- a job that would only enhance her credentials for promotion.

As a district court judge in Washington, D.C., Jackson met with President Barack Obama five years ago when he was evaluating candidates for the vacancy left by the death of conservative Justice Antonin Scalia. Obama ultimately selected Judge Merrick Garland, but Senate Republicans refused to consider the nomination.
