Taiwan Tax Legislation Moves to Senate After Broad House Vote

House lawmakers voted Wednesday to advance legislation to provide tax treaty-like benefits to companies doing business between Taiwan and the US, advancing it for Senate consideration.

The 423-1 vote showed rare bipartisanship in the new Congress where the GOP majority has plans to move major legislation without the need for Democratic votes.

The legislation would relieve double taxation on companies doing business between the US and Taiwan in a way aimed at avoiding angering Beijing, which claims the island democracy as part of China.
