Takaichi: Agreed With DPP to Lift Tax-Free Ceiling to 1.78M Yen

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi says she agreed with the Democratic Party for the People, a key opposition party, to raise the annual income-tax free ceiling to ¥1.78 million.

• NOTE: The level is in line with the DPP’s original request that the party made last year, when the ceiling was ¥1.03 million
• NOTE: DPP has been pressing for the ¥1.78 million level after the ceiling was raised somewhat
• Takaichi says she made a final decision to boost incomes and improve the atmosphere for consumers in order to create a strong economy
