Tariff Threat Could ‘Contaminate’ Minimum Tax Talks, EU Says

A senior EU official warned Friday that countries would be less likely to agree to a global minimum tax resolution if the US imposes stiff tariffs on them.

“If a very, very, very large group of countries are in a situation where they get a very, very high tariff, the willingness to compromise might be affected,” Benjamin Angel, the director for direct tax at the European Commission, said on a panel at the International Tax Conference in Munich. “That’s a sad reality, but that’s a reality.”
