With the GOP tax package now law, tax writers are turning their efforts to a more bipartisan topic: resolving issues that have frustrated taxpayers and have been frequent topics in litigation.

The House Ways and Means Committee earlier this month advanced bills aimed at making the US Tax Court more efficient and clarifying rules for supervisory approval of IRS penalty assessments. Lawmakers approved both unanimously.
