This year’s tax-filing season went more smoothly than others in recent years, but the IRS is still struggling with backlogs of amended tax returns and correspondence, National Taxpayer Advocate Erin Collins said in her annual midyear report released Wednesday.
“Overall, the difference between the 2022 filing season and the 2023 filing season was like night and day,” Collins wrote. “Despite the improvement, some problems carried over and others are inevitable in a tax system as large as ours.”
