Judges Will Issue Opinions While Tax Court Is Shuttered (1)

March 19, 2020, 12:57 PMUpdated: March 19, 2020, 2:31 PM

The U.S. Tax Court building is now closed until further notice.

The closure, announced late Wednesday, comes amid the new coronavirus pandemic. The court previously announced it would delay trials and hearings as needed amid the Covid-19 outbreak, and urged sick individuals to stay home.

  • The court will continue to issue opinions, though there may be delays, a court spokesperson told Bloomberg Tax Thursday.
  • The eFiling and eAccess sytems remain operational.
  • Mail will be held for delivery until the court reopens.
  • Taxpayers may comply with statutory deadlines for filing petitions or notices of appeal by timely mailing the documents. The timeliness is determined by the postmark or delivery certificate of a private delivery service.
