Tax Court Upholds Some Research Expenses for Chicken Producer

The owners of a mass producer of poultry products are entitled to research credits related to certain qualifying research expenses in 2012 through 2014, the US Tax Court said Tuesday.

Gary George, sole shareholder of George’s of Missouri Inc. and his wife Robin George are entitled to qualified research expenses of $5.1 million in 2012, almost $7.3 million in 2013, and over $1.9 million in 2014 because certain research activities—including projects related to poultry feed additives, vaccines, and genetic line trials—met the statutory requirements for qualified research under Section 41 of the tax code, the opinion said.
