Tax Credits Vital in Filmmaking Decisions, Paramount VP Says

Tax credits and incentives are important factors in helping a movie studio decide where it films its next production, a Paramount Global vice president said.

“Because this is part of the budgeting process, oftentimes that tax credit is the difference between a project being green lit and it not moving forward into production,” Mary Anne Buechel, vice president and counsel in international tax, said at a conference in Rome.

“For every dollar you receive in a tax credit, it’s one dollar less that the studio doesn’t need to fund themselves or fund through third-party debt financing,” she added.
