IRS’s pandemic-induced document backlog means that some nonprofits trying to get refunded for a now-defunct tax are struggling to get help from the agency.
The 2017 tax law imposed a 21% tax on certain benefits provided by nonprofits, including for free parking spaces. Lawmakers later repealed the tax code Section 512(a)(7) provision. Nonprofits can apply for a refund on the taxes they paid.
