Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin may want to tread carefully with the Internal Revenue Service redesign plan he has been instructed to draw up for Congress.
“The more significant the reorganization, the longer it will take for the service to adjust and move forward,” said former IRS Commissioner Mark Everson. “You shouldn’t have reorganization for reorganization’s sake.”
He and other IRS veterans said that while some streamlining could be good for the IRS, too much reshuffling may hurt the agency, which is still recovering from years of budget cuts and staffing declines.
