National Taxpayer Advocate Erin Collins on Tuesday expressed concern about the IRS’s ability to clear its tax return backlog by the end of the year.
During a conference hosted by the American Institute of CPAs, Collins said the IRS has been making progress on reducing its backlog of Form 1040 individual returns, but must also clear its backlog of other types of returns, including business returns and amended returns.
“I would like to be optimistic, but I don’t see that all of that will be cleared before end of December,” Collins said.
