Tech Pushes US to Act Against Digital Taxes After Canada U-Turn

A US business group is asking the Trump administration to raise the pressure on foreign digital services taxes after successfully pushing for Canada to abandon its levy.

American companies paid over $9.1 billion in DSTs between 2020 and 2024 to the UK, France, Spain, and Italy, the Computer & Communications Industry Association, which represents tech companies, said Wednesday.

The four countries collected around $2.8 billion in DSTs in 2024, the CCIA reported. The UK’s 2% tax collected $1 billion in that year, France’s 3% levy collected $866 million, Italy’s 3% tax $487 million, and ...
