Texas City Seeks Standing to Challenge State Housing Tax Break

A Texas city and school district told an appellate court they have the right to challenge a state law for granting property tax exemptions to owners of apartment complexes that produce no public benefit.

The city of Plano and the Plano Independent School District have standing to sue and contest § 303.042(f) of the Texas Local Government Code because the city and district have suffered a loss of $10 million in annual revenue thus have incurred financial injury, a Wednesday brief said.
