Texas’ Hemp License Increase Needed for Oversight, Official Says

Texas must increase hemp licensing fees in addition to banning smokable hemp in the state, a state official testified Thursday, to cover the cost of more state investigators to oversee the 14,000 businesses that currently sell hemp products.

Dr. Timothy Stevenson, deputy commissioner of the Department of State Health Services, said the goal is for the state to stop by each store once every two years. Right now, there are only enough investigators to make visits every six or seven years, he said.
