Texas Justices Grant Disabled Veteran’s Property Tax Exemption

A disabled veteran who lives separately from her husband is eligible for a property tax exemption which her spouse already receives based on a plain reading of state law, the Texas Supreme Court ruled Friday.

Yvondia Johnson and her husband served in the US Air Force. Johnson’s husband hasn’t paid property taxes on his San Antonio home due to an exemption in the Texas Tax Code that applies to the homes of veterans who are 100% disabled due to their service.
