Texas Landfill Seeks High Court Support of Lower Tax Appraisal

A Texas sanitation company asked the state supreme court to take a narrow view in a dispute over whether a trial court can evaluate an appraiser’s challenge of a separate ruling that reduced the tax assessment of a landfill by about $18.4 million.

Texas Disposal Systems Landfill Inc. argued before the Texas Supreme Court on Thursday that the Travis County Appraisal District can’t contest the tax valuation of the landfill based on its fair market value because the assessment was made on separate grounds.
