Thailand’s Cabinet to Consider Extending 7% VAT Rate

Thailand’s Cabinet will deliberate keeping the value-added tax at 7% for another year at its meeting on Sept. 10, Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana siaid on Sept. 9.

  • The extension would keep the rate from rising to 10%.
  • If approved, the 7% rate would be extended for the fiscal year starting Oct. 1.
  • Thailand unveiled a cut in the VAT rate to 7% in 1999 and has kept it there since then.
