Treasury Domestic-Finance Nominee Liang Wins Senate Confirmation

The U.S. Senate on Thursday voted to confirm Nellie Liang as Treasury undersecretary of domestic finance, installing a Federal Reserve veteran as the department’s point person on financial markets and bank regulation.

Liang, 63, will play a key role for Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on topics including the imminent restoration of the nation’s debt limit, along with examining last year’s bond-market turmoil. Liang formerly headed the Fed’s division of financial stability while Yellen was central bank chief and has been working this year as a counselor at Treasury while awaiting Senate confirmation.
