The Treasury Department intends to release data on the economic effects of the opportunity zone incentives by next summer and still plans on addressing redrawn census tract lines that may make zones larger or smaller, an official said.
The department is struggling with how to study zones chosen for the tax breaks versus “control” zones, as well as with the timing of certain Census survey data that is averaged over five years, said Daniel Kowalski, counselor to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. More in-depth data analyses would likely come later, he added.
