Treasury’s Bessent Vows to Study Taxpayer Help Center Issues (1)

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent promised Wednesday during a Senate hearing to take a closer look into the closure of Taxpayer Assistance Centers in northern Maine.

Appropriations Committee Chair Susan Collins (R-Maine) pressed Bessent on the closures in her state, saying taxpayers now face a 10-hour drive to get help at a southern Maine location. Collins sent a letter to Bessent last month on the topic.

“I’ve instructed the IRS to look into this,” Bessent said. “We will get back to you and we will remedy this 10-hour problem.”
