Treasury’s Capitol Hill Liaison Nominee Wins Senate Confirmation

The Senate confirmed President Donald Trump’s nominee to serve as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s chief liaison to Capitol Hill on Thursday, elevating an aide critical to the department’s efforts to implement Trump’s signature tax law and install new leadership at the beleaguered IRS.

The Senate voted 53-43 to confirm a batch of nominees that included Derek Theurer, who will serve as deputy Treasury undersecretary for legislative affairs.

Theurer already is performing the duties of deputy Treasury secretary after Michael Faulkender’s exit in August. That makes him second only at the department to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the interim IRS commissioner. ...
