The Trump administration is directing the IRS to cut its workforce by 20% by May 15—the second wave of firings in its spree to gut the federal workforce, according to media reports.
Officials at the Elon Musk-led group want the acting IRS commissioner Melanie Krause to eliminate 18,141 jobs across the agency with a focus on employees that work in enforcement, according to reporting by the Washington Post. Earlier this year the IRS had about 100,000 employees.
