Trump Tax Return Leaker’s Five-Year Sentence Fair, DOJ Argues

Former Booz Allen Hamilton employee Charles Littlejohn’s efforts to “knowingly and willfully” leak tax return information on thousands of wealthy people justifies the statutory-maximum five-year prison sentence he received, federal prosecutors told the DC Circuit Wednesday.

The sentence was appropriate considering the circumstances and “gravity” of Littlejohn’s crimes, the Justice Department said in a brief filed with the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit.

Littlejohn, who pleaded guilty in 2023 to stealing IRS tax data and leaking it to the New York Times and ProPublica, called the sentence politically motivated and appealed.
