A federal trial in New Jersey shows how President Donald Trump’s move to curtail enforcement of a bedrock bribery law can upend criminal prosecutions.

As recently as Feb. 21, US prosecutors said they had received government approval to take the case against a pair of former Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp. executives to trial this week. But a new interim US Attorney scuttled those plans at the last minute.
