Australia plans to require companies such as Uber Technologies Inc. and Airbnb Inc. to report how much they pay their drivers and hosts to ensure they are paying the correct amount of taxes on their income.
The country’s tax authority is proposing to compel ride-sharing and accommodation-sharing marketplaces to regularly report all payments to participants so they can be matched against their tax returns. Penalties may be assessed for failure to report this information.
