UN Votes for Framework Tax Convention Amid Work on OECD Deal (3)

The UN General Assembly voted Wednesday to create a framework convention for what developing countries say will be a more inclusive discussion on international taxation.

Countries voted 125-48 for the resolution, and nine countries abstained.

The vote marks the latest development in a heated global debate about which forum—the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development or the United Nations—is better suited to conduct work on international tax cooperation. It also comes about a month before key parts of the OECD-led global tax deal take effect in Europe.
