Growing US opposition to foreign taxes affecting American companies is stoking expectations among tax specialists that Canada may backtrack on two planned tax measures.
US House passage last week of a tax bill mechanism to retaliate against “unfair” foreign taxes came just weeks before large tech companies are due to make the first payments under Canada’s digital services tax, a levy that’s a major source of friction between the North American neighbors.
