US Business Lobby Calls on Canada to Support Digital Tax Freeze

The US Chamber of Commerce on Friday called on the Canadian government to support an extension of a 2021 freeze on new digital service taxes after the country rejected an agreement detailed by the OECD to do so Wednesday.

In a statement released by the US business lobby Friday, Senior Vice President of Tax Policy Watson McLeish called any new digital service tax, or DST, imposed by the North American country “discriminatory” and argued a new digital tax would “contravene Canada’s obligations under both the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).”
