The US Senate gave overwhelming approval Thursday on a long-sought tax pact with Chile, ending more than a decade-long odyssey to get the treaty across the finish line.
Lawmakers voted 95-2 in favor of consenting to ratify the tax treaty, completing an early push by Democratic leaders overseeing the implementation of green energy credits passed in last year’s tax-and-climate bill. Chile is one of the globe’s biggest producers of lithium, a critical element in batteries and other technology critical to moving away from gas and oil dependence.
