Automobile maintenance service center operators sued California’s tax agency and an environmental regulator for an approximately $515,000 refund because the companies said the used oil they generated is exempt from hazardous waste taxation.
Henley Pacific LLC and Henley Pacific LA LLC operate Valvoline Instant Oil Change shops. They’re state-certified used oil collectors, and as such the waste they produce is exempt from hazardous waste taxes under state law, the companies’ complaint released Wednesday said.
