Virginia Tax Department to Decouple Tax, Unemployment Insurance Accounts Effective Aug. 1, 2026

The Virginia Department of Taxation has announced that beginning Aug. 1, 2026, businesses will no longer be able to link their Virginia Tax Business Online Services (iFile) accounts with Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) accounts. Any currently linked accounts will be automatically uncoupled. Employers must manage unemployment insurance (UI) tax accounts directly through the VEC website using ID.me authentication. UI tax obligations, including third-quarter unemployment insurance filings, will no longer be accessible through Virginia Tax’s iFile system.
