Warren Probes KPMG on Its Role in Microsoft’s ‘Tax Evasion’

A Senate trio questioned accounting giant KPMG in a letter on its alleged role in assisting Microsoft Corp. avoid paying billions of dollars in US tax.

Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) asked KPMG in the letter dated Wednesday to provide answers on its involvement designing the tax strategy used by Microsoft by Dec. 13. The IRS claimed that Microsoft owes $28.9 billion in unpaid taxes from a plan designed by KPMG that violated transfer pricing laws.

A spokesperson for KPMG didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
