Ways and Means Announces Climate Change Hearing

The House Ways and Means Committee will hold a May 15 hearing on the economic and health consequences of climate change.

Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.) announced the hearing in a May 8 release. The topic is one that Neal has previously said is a priority.

  • A carbon tax could come up in the discussion, among other issues.
  • The tax would levy a fee on the production, distribution, or use of fossil fuels based on how much carbon their combustion emits. The idea is politically fraught.
