‘We Won in Kansas,’ Netflix and Hulu Tell Ohio in Tax Dispute

Netflix Inc. and Hulu LLC informed the Ohio Supreme Court of their win in a similar Kansas case while they await a ruling from the high court on whether they are subject to local franchise fees paid by cable TV and internet service companies.

The case before the Ohio high court was filed by the city of Maple Heights, which seeks to represent a class of potentially over 2,000 local governments that argue streaming services should pay them up to 5% of their subscription revenue because they are “video service providers” under the state’s Fair Competition in Cable Operations Act. ...
