Woman Fails to Stop Home Foreclosure for Former Owner’s Tax Debt

A woman who rented and later took possession of a home lost her bid to stop the government from foreclosing upon it for the prior owner’s tax debt.

Judge Thomas J. Whelan of the US District Court for the Southern District of California granted the government summary judgment over Nancy Schaedler-Moore, allowing the government to foreclose on her Vista, Calif., home. The government sued last June to enforce the $1.27 million in tax liens attached to it on account of its former owner, Robert Michael “Buzz” Scharringhausen, who had passed away by that time.
