Work-From-Home Means Tax Compliance Questions for TravelCenters

Truck stop behemoth TravelCenters of America already pays a myriad of state and local taxes for its 250 locations across the U.S., but the work-from-home shift of the pandemic is causing its head of tax to lose sleep worrying about new compliance problems.

The fuel, convenience store, and restaurant giant based in Westlake, Ohio, has workers putting in time from home offices like many other businesses. And Toni Mitchell, the firm’s senior vice president of tax, said Tuesday during the Ohio Business Tax Conference the situation creates uncertainty over whether the new employee locations may require more tax filings.
