Backers of a bipartisan tax credit that rewards employers for hiring those who struggle to find a job are pushing for movement on renewing and expanding the expiring incentive.

Lawmakers and lobbyists are merging disparate efforts to expand the Work Opportunity Tax Credit, a federal tax break for companies that employ veterans, ex-felons, and recipients of needs-based benefits.
