Workers Get Extra Time to Report Status Changes From 2017 Tax Law

Employees will get continue to get a break from telling their employer about life events that change the amount of tax that should be withheld from their paychecks.

The reprieve—from the usual 10-day time limit—applies to individuals whose tax status changed specifically because of measures in the 2017 tax law. The agency will continue the exemption through April 30, it said Nov. 26 in Notice 2018-92.
