Wyden Presses Justice Thomas on Tax Details of Forgiven Loan

Senate Finance Chair Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) said Wednesday that new information raises questions about whether Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas reported the forgiveness of a $267,000 loan he used to buy a motor coach.

“Justice Thomas should inform the committee exactly how much debt was forgiven and whether he properly reported the loan forgiveness on his tax returns and paid all taxes owed,” Wyden said in a statement. “I have also directed the committee to share our findings with the Judiciary Committee to evaluate the ethics implications of this disclosure.”
